With a sturdy thread binding, the notebook lays flat when open, providing a smooth writing experience. The cover is crafted from hard chipboard with a woven texture, complemented by a discreet glossy black Tomoe River logo on the front. For added protection, the notebook includes a removable transparent plastic cover.

Sanzen, the new manufacturer of the esteemed Tomoe River paper, acquired the rights after the previous owner ceased production in 2021. Drawing on their experience since 1976, Sanzen re-engineered the paper’s formula, combining hardwood pulp (eucalyptus) and softwood pulp (pine) to achieve superior quality.

The updated paper is 5 microns thicker, offering a slightly firmer feel and improved durability. It handles erasers more effectively and has a reduced drying time for fountain pen ink.
